Noticed a few new people posting here so I've bumped this thread...

Came to London in 1996 and worked in the City for a couple of years (interest rate derivatives / fixed income sales and trading) before accepting a managing director post for a year.

Working in finance (plus a nice rise in the value of my first property which I subsequently sold) earned me enough money to pay off the mortgage for the new flat, buy a pro camera (JVC GY500E), a used SGI Octane MXE with analog/serial digital video in/out and the complete Avid Media Illusion Suite (MI, Matador, Elastic Reality and lots of plugins) as well as Softimage|3D Extreme and lots of other pro hardware (dolly, crane, Bowens lights, Sennheiser Mic, RAID etc.). Still don't have a car, though.

I stopped working in March to focus entirely on filming for the rest of the year. So far I have completed a short, am currently editing a feature (trailer in my sig) and about to present a six-episode comedy series to the BBC's light entertainment division (two, if my mate gets his a r s e in gear and writes the bleeding script!). The meeting yesterday was a success, hence I am going write the complete series and shoot a pilot (should be concluded by middle of November latest).

If the filmmaking doesn't work out by the end of the year I will probably abandon it altogether - at least I have tried it. IMHO there is no point if it doesn't bear fruit financially. Definitely learned a lot - I had to produce (i.e. finance), direct, write, act, edit, animate and even bloody compose the soundtrack since the musicians my partners in crime dug out were a complete waste of space so far (I don't know any musicians, unfortunately).

I'm 19, me and a friend/business partner run a video production company and have done work for various training companies and educational companies.

but really all of that is to make enough money to make films. short films mainly but a feature next year (close to a finished first draft now!) plus a feature documentary and some gone in 60 seconds competition entries this year.

doing a-level in media studies at the moment and am really getting into the film-making side of it.

we are making a digital short very soon, but I dis-like the structure of a-level productions- we aren't required to write a script but they want us to storyboard every shot?!?! [img]mad.gif[/img]

its frustrating.

i hope to be able to be involved in film-making in the future, but i'm not counting on it.

Well i'm a 17 year old just finishing my Alevels (yes im doing media).

At the moment im just making shorts - currently shooting my 3rd and i have a couple more already written which i hope to make.

I hope to go to uni next year to study film, but mainly because i need a degree to apply to the NFTS.

At the end of this year i hope to be working on a feature under one of the UK film council schemes.
